ABOUT THE AUTHOR
BEVERLEY TASKER

Beverley Tasker spent his boyhood in the West Riding where he developed a great love for walking and cycling in the Yorkshire Dales. It was there, surrounded by woods, rivers and the wild, brown moorland, that he found the inspiration behind his poetry.

"I remember those idyllic days," he writes, "with profound gratitude, for I truly associate them with the rapturous feeling of being at one with nature. To be a poet is to recognise that everything has its story. For the creative mind, each stone, every path, possesses a unique biography. The possibilities for the imagination are endless."

But it is not only pastoral and lyrical poetry that interests Beverley Tasker. He is sure that some day a poet will emerge who will write about scientific and urban themes as Wordsworth once wrote about the rural world. Atoms, galaxies, electromagnetic forces, psychology are all there for poetic development in his vision of the future of poetry.

He is equally convinced about the possibilities for poetic form. "The electronic world is opening up enormous potential for experimentation with the shape of poetry. Poetry is like sculpture, but it is also dynamic. The interaction between electronic media and the written and spoken word is a valid and exciting subject for poetic treatment. With the help of science we are moving into a new poetic age."
